Eyelash Extensions
Below are some common questions about our Eye Lash Extension services.
Eyelash Extensions are a popular service and product that lengthens and thickens your own natural eyelashes. Lash extensions are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. They are applied to each individual natural eyelash one by one for a natural and beautiful look. Eyelash extensions are perfect for special occasions or for day-to-day wear.
This is an example of a response that you might give. It's good to be as thorough as possible in responses as that has a tendency to improve trust overall.
When applied properly, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes. Everyone's experience will differ based on day to day activities but over all, touchups should only be required every 2 to 3 weeks. A special long-lasting waterproof bonding agent is used.
I recommend getting a touch up every 2 to 3 weeks. If you wait too long your eyelash extensions will fall out and you will require a full set. Your natural eyelashes fall off every 45 - 60 days due to the natural growth cycle and are naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. Other factors such as expsoure to steam or touching your eyes alot may cause the extensions to fall sooner. A touch up is needed to fill in any lashes that have fallen out. Touch ups average about 60 minutes.
Yes, although I don't recommend it. Mascara is not needed since the extensions actually give the illusion of wearing mascara. It can still be worn, however it must be water based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash extensions causing them to fall out sooner. Care also needs to be taken in washing off the mascara. Only use a water-based eye makeup remover.
I do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions as these curlers will damage the extensions and possibly your own natural lashes. The extensions do have a natural curl but if more of a curl is required I recommend using a heated eyelash curler.
Yes. The bonding agent used is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low. It is recommended, however, that you do not use heavy water, such as in the shower on your lashes for about 12- 24 hours after the eyelash application. A light mist is fine.
- Please clean your lashes with a recommended cleanser daily. Removing natural oils as well as skin care products is essential in keeping your lashes fresh for as long as possible.
- Gently comb your lashes with the provided lash brush to avoid tangling of your new lashes.
- Avoid hot steam or sauna
- Do not rub your eyes
- Only use water based mascara (optional)
- If applying mascara do so from middle to tip, avoid root area
- Use water based eye makeup remover
- Do not perm your lashes
- Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler
- Do not pull on your lashes (this may cause your natural lashes to come out prematurely)
Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure. However, improper application by an unqualified eyelash technician can cause damage to your natural lashes. Only use a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist.
The initial application of lash extensions normally takes anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. You will lay comfortably on my facial table with your eyes closed. Before beginning, I will apply a gel pad under your eyes to cover your lower lashes . Next, I will apply an extension to each individual eyelash.
Eyelash extensions are available in a number of lengths and thickness. I consult with you first to see which style appeals to you. I also determine what your lashes can hold in regards to size. Each person's lashes will vary in strength and length. I take this into consideration when creating a look for you. The overall look of the extensions can be very natural.
Waxing
Below are some common questions about our Waxing Services.
This is to be expected, particularly the first two or three times waxing due to unknown trauma to the sebaceous gland. This will subdue over time.
This is not possible; it's an old wives tale. Over time with frequent waxing, hair regrowth weakens and comes in finer and thinner, but frequency and diligence is required to achieve results. If hair darkens and grows in thicker, it's a function of hormones, not waxing.
Ingrown hairs may result from the following:
- Genetics: Some clients are prone to ingrown hairs due to their genetic make-up. Consult me for the best follow up care. This normally will include some type of exfoliating treatment.
- Client Error: The client must avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs. The client should, after 24-48 hours, use some type of exfoliating product to keep dead skin from accumulating in the areas that tend to become ingrown (i.e., bikini, upper thighs, underarms, back of neck, calves, etc.).
- Weakened Hair: As the client continues with waxing, hair will begin to weaken and thin. My clients should continue to use their exfoliating products and procedures as recommended.
- If you use Retin-A, Renova, Accutane, or any other questionable medications or any other skin thinning substance such as excessive use of AHA's (glycolic).
- If you have any systematic disease such as cancer (risk of infection), diabetes (very prone to bruising), herpes simplex (cold sores), etc.
- If you have vascular problems such as, varicose veins.
- If you have open wounds, infection, inflammation, hypersensitivity.
- If in doubt, don't wax!
- Outdoor sun exposure for 24 hours
- Makeup, if face waxed
- Hot water, saunas
- Deodorant with aluminum
- Salt glow / stimulating body or facial treatments
- Chlorinated water
- Tight clothing for legs / bikini
- Tanning beds for 24- 48 hours
